Photographing Youth as a concept was an exciting challenge. It's abstract and subjective, making it difficult to visualize. It was great working with GUCFS on Youth focusing on what youth means and the contrast between childhood and adolescence.
The first step in photographing a concept was to understand its message and purpose. In the case of the GUCFS Youth campaign, the concept is about the transition from childhood to adolescence, and what it means to be young. To capture this idea, I thought about the different elements that define childhood and adolescence. For example, childhood is often associated with innocence, playfulness, and imagination, while adolescence is characterized by self-discovery, rebellion, and emotional turmoil.
When it came to lighting the harsh natural light was difficult to work but ended up giving a dreamy, innocent feel.
A final important factor that was considered was composition. The placement of the models within the playground affected the overall feel of the images. Playing with he abstract shapes and colours was a joy.
